SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Applications for Lassen County Farm Bureau scholarships (up to $4,000) are now available. These scholarships will be awarded to deserving high school or college students who are pursuing a career in agriculture or agri-business. The deadline to apply is April 10. TRI-TIP DINNER ANYONE?

Every year the seventh-grade class at Richmond School hosts a tri-tip sandwich dinner to raise funds for their eighth-grade year. This year’s dinner is set from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. You can have it as take out or dine-in. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased from any seventh-grader, which they encourage. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. They have family and individual tickets available.

CATTLEWOMEN’S/MEN’S SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Once again, applications for the Lassen County CattleWomen’s agriculture and memorial scholarships and Cattlemen’s agriculture scholarship are available at Lassen County high schools and Lassen College counseling departments. Dora Valentine, owner of Iron Horse Gym, says they are now offering Fitness on Demand. Orientation will be Wednesday, March 27 and the training starts on April 10. Local Women, Infants and Children Program Coordinator at Northeastern Rural Health Clinics, Inc., Barbara Byers, RD, CLC, let us know there are lots of ways the program can help stretch your food dollars. If you’ve been too busy to renew your program eligibility then you will be happy to know they have streamlined the process and the average appointments are running 30 minutes or less. Plus, you can now do the nutrition education course online.

“Times are tough and Women, Infants and Children Program is here to help eligible applicants maximize their food budget so they can offer healthy, nutritional choices for their children,” Byers said.
