Free entry to Lassen Volcanic National Park for Lassen Film Festival, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Jan. 15, 2013 — "Lassen Volcanic National Park has waived fees on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Sunday, Jan. 20 to encourage visitors to attend the second annual Lassen Film Festival and discover winter in the park,” said Superintendent Darlene M. Koontz. These free entrance days coincide with the scheduled fee-free day Monday, Jan. 21 in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The Lassen Film Festival celebrates Lassen through outdoor fun and film. This year’s selections include films featuring California State Parks, park wildlife, volcanoes and space exploration. View the complete festival schedule at nps.gov/lavo/planyourvisit/film-festival. This free event begins at 10 a.m. at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. Visitors are encouraged to bring snow clothing and equipment to enjoy snow play before or after the festival or to participate at 1:30 p.m. Saturday or Sunday in the ranger-led snowshoe walk.
Visitors traveling to the park should be prepared for winter weather and driving conditions. Carry tire chains in your vehicle from October through May, along with extra food, water, and blankets. For more information, contact the park at 595-4480, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday or visit the park website at nps.gov/lavo.
