Early morning outage planned

Dec. 26, 2012 — Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has notified the Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD) it will transfer service back to its Caribou system at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27. This early morning transfer will require an outage to LMUD customers of approximately one hour as the publicly owned utility district switches from Honey Lake Power back to PG&E. LMUD asks customers for their patience and understanding while LMUD and PG&E crews work to ensure the transfer occurs as smoothly as possible. “LMUD crews have worked nearly around the clock during this recent series of storms to restore power to remote customer sites,” wrote Keri Richards, LMUD’s officer manager, in a press release. “We thank their families who waited patiently for their return while they tirelessly worked to make the holiday better for our customers.” While there are still some areas that remain inaccessible to LMUD crews such as the Eagle’s Nest and the Eagle Lake Youth Camp, crews will restore power when they can gain access and safely restore power. There is no estimate of when this will occur. If you are experiencing power outages at this time or following the restoration process on Thursday morning, call the LMUD office at 257-4174. To receive major system outage updates on your mobile device, text “LMUD” to 69302.

Why isn't there a manual switch in place to handle this issue? It sounds like the linemen have to actually transfer the jumpers from Honey Lake to PG&E. One more reason to get rid of LMUD and go to Pacific Power.
