Sunrise Rotary hosts wine tasting

Nov. 13, 2012 — The Susanville Sunrise Rotary Club is hosts its 10th annual wine tasting and silent auction on Friday, Nov. 16. This event is the club’s major fundraiser, which allows them to assist many projects throughout the year.

The Sunrise Rotary is part of Rotary International and they are committed to local and international service projects, which enhance our community and world.

Some of the projects they have sponsored are to charter a Youth Interact Club at Lassen High School, helping youth embrace community service and volunteerism.

This year they hosted an exchange student from Italy, and they sponsored a local student who went to France.

Many of Rotary’s exchange students have come back to visit Susanville; one came back to attend Lassen Community College.

Sunrise Rotary served lunch at the Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby and dinner for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, with all proceeds going directly to the events.

Other services they provided were to repaint the interior of the senior citizen’s center, and donate nearly 20 cords of wood for local seniors.

The club partnered with another organization to provide clean drinking water and an eye clinic in Ecuador.

They provide scholarships at the high school and junior college levels, and partner with other local Rotary Clubs to sponsor a youth music and speech contest, with winners going to the district level.

Throughout the year, they participate in Rotarians at Workdays, from river cleanup to work at local schools and centers.

A number of items and services have been donated this year for the silent auction, including a wine refrigerator full of wine, a gas barbeque from Ace Hardware and plenty of gift certificates.

The wine tasting and silent auction event will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16 at Jensen Hall at the fairgrounds. Tickets are $25 each and are available from Sunrise Rotary or the Chamber of Commerce.
