Nov. 6, 2012 — The back room of Lassen Ale Works was packed Tuesday, Oct. 30 for their first annual home brewing contest.
Margaret Liddiard, Ale Works manager, called out the entries while a panel of five tasters sampled some of the best homebrewed beer in Lassen and Plumas counties.
Brewmaster Erik Jefferts said it was one of the strongest brew competitions he’s judged and he’s been judging for 25 years.
With a total of 21 entries from 12 competitors, there were several different types of brew. The largest category was IPA with six entries.
And the winners are:
First Place: Dustin Osborn for Moon Shadow Black, IPA
Second Place: KohBoom Brewery (Rob Kohrt and Greg Boom) for Full Brazilian Lager. This beer also won “best in style” and “best beer name.”
Third place was a tie between KohBoom Brewery for their Supreme Stout Lager and Jon Mossinger for his Honey Raspberry Lager.
The most unusual entry winner was Tom Morrow for his Winter Warmer Pale Ale, which was infused with Anaheim and Jalapeno peppers.
