Thompson Peak hike held this Saturday

Oct. 19, 2012 — Lassen Land and Trails Trust’s (Trust) Discover Lassen series wraps up the season with a Thompson Peak Challenge.

Discover the vistas and special features of Thompson Peak on a challenging hike Saturday, Oct. 20, with Austin Meinert, chair of the Janesville Town Council.

Hikers will break for lunch at the summit and visit the Lookout and Janesville Gap Filler Annex, known as the radar building, both being evaluated for the National Register of Historic Places. The hike is challenging and will be cross-country.

Proper hiking boots and equipment is recommended. Bring snacks, plenty of water and a lunch. The day will begin at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast at Artisan Coffee. Shuttles will take hikers to the trailhead at 9 a.m. Shuttles will return hikers to Artisan Coffee at 5 p.m. for a picnic dinner hosted by Artisan Coffee, Janesville Town Council and Pizza Factory.

There will also be a display of the proposed Honey Lake Rim Trail. If you’re not up for the hike, but would like to join in for the picnic dinner and learn about the proposed trail, you are welcome. Indicate “dinner only” when you register.

Registration is $10/person to help defray a portion of the costs. To register, go to llttweb.org and navigate to Community/Discover Lassen or call 257-3252.
