Purchase tickets to help get a K9 officer

Oct. 9, 2012 — Efforts to raise money to fund a K9 dog officer for the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) are still underway.

Currently Treats Dog Company and Pet Marketplace (Treats) and Honey Lake Firearms have partnered in a raffle to raise $5,000 of the approximately $13,500 necessary to obtain an officer (dog), train a handler and outfit a vehicle to transport the K9.

Monte Kielty, owner of Treats, said past fundraising efforts and “one very generous donation” have resulted in about $7,500, which is sitting in the bank.

“We want people to know that if everyone contributes a little bit, we will get there a lot faster,” Kielty said.

Kielty also said the prizes are just a bonus — the raffle is primarily a community fundraiser for the K9 officer. Therefore, he said if a prizewinner doesn’t want the Henry Golden Boy 22 rifle or the Sportdog 800 remote training collar, they could sell them and donate the money to the K9 fund, or donate the items themselves to an organization that could utilize them.

Tickets are $10 each and are available at Treats, Honey Lake Firearms and the LCSO. The drawing will be held at Treats on Oct. 27. All of the proceeds from the raffle go directly to the fund.

For more information, call Treats at 257-1614, Honey Lake Firearms at 252-1199 or the LCSO at 251-8013.
