Officers seize popular teen drug from Doyle business

Sept. 25, 2012 — Large amounts of a popular drug sold to teenagers was seized from the Payless Gas Station in Doyle after law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at the location Monday, Sept. 24.

According to a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Lassen County Narcotics Task Force agents had been receiving information that people, specifically teens, have been going to the business and purchasing “spice.”

Spice is a mixture of herbal/spice plant products sprayed with potent psychotropic drugs, often contaminated with unidentified toxic substances, which contribute to various adverse health effects. It has hallucinogenic effects similar to the effects of PCP and has been reportedly very popular with teenagers.

Based on this information, the Lassen County Narcotics Task Force began an investigation into the sales of this product from the Doyle Payless. A task force agent posing as a patron entered the store on more than one occasion and purchased spice from an employee working at the store.

The store was temporarily closed during the search. The case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney for review, and according to the press release, arrest warrants are expected to be issued in the near future.

Is spice legal in California to people of 18? Or is it illegal all together?
