Firefighters get a line around Cheney Creek Road Fire

Thursday Sept. 13, 2012 — Good news on the fire on Cheney Creek Road near the city of Susanville.

The mandatory evacuations for residents living west of the water tower on Cheney Creek Road will be downgraded to voluntary evacuations at 4:45 p.m. today, according to Jeff Fontana, a public information officer with the Susanville Interagency Fire Center.

Sgt. Kevin Jones, of the Lassen County Sheriff's Office, said only residents will be allowed in the area.

Fontana said as of 4:20 p.m. today fire crews had a line around the fire that has burned 150 acres so far.

Fontana said two air tankers have been released, leaving five fighting the fire and seven helicopters are still in use.

Sorry to say, this article is far from correct. Today is the 15th, and this fire is currently at 240 acres and 90% contained.

The day you reported this, I guess you must've been talking to the wrong man as fire was only 40% contained at that time.
