Man rolls vehicle during chase, arrested on scene

Tuesday, Sept. 11 — In the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 8, law enforcement officers arrested Robert Brummett, 28, of Susanville, after he led them on a high-speed vehicle chase that ended when he rolled his vehicle on Byers Pass Road.

According to a press release from Kevin Jones, a sergeant with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were in the Leavitt Lake Area seeking a person who had been involved in an alleged domestic disturbance that occurred in the Susanville area.

Officers located Brummett, who was the person of interest in the case and attempted to detain him. According to the press release, Brummett disregarded the deputy and fled in his vehicle and in his attempt, collided with a residential fence.

The deputy pursued Brummett while activating his emergency lights and siren, but Brummett did not yield. From Leavitt Lake, Brummett drove west on Highway 395, reaching speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour.

According to the press release, in the process of evading deputies, the suspect forced opposing vehicles off the roadway as he continued in a reckless manner. Deputies continued to chase the vehicle as it turned onto Byers Pass Road. While still being pursued by deputies, Brummett’s vehicle collided with a parked vehicle on the street as it traveled south, but he still continued driving.

Prior to reaching Sunnyside Road, Brummett’s vehicle rolled and landed on its top. He did not need medical attention, was arrested at the scene and booked into the Lassen County Jail for felony evading of a peace officer and hit and run. Additional charges were added by the Susanville Police Department.

The case has been submitted to the Lassen County District Attorney for prosecution.

Lets face it. We are starting to see alot of violence in Lassen County and it is effecting innocent lives.I am not being sarcastic. I am speaking the truth.Man! This was once a town so awsome to live in. I feel they should start being strict on those who bring crime to our town.

Agreed, seems everyone Left in Lassen is connected to the prisons, either works there or has been a prisoner. "Prison County" is really true and seedy characters are now all around us. Good thing I have my legal CCW, I am safer.

Leavitt Lake has really gone downhill.
It is sad to watch but it is now a known drug area with nothing but unemployed vagrants, take a drive thru during the day and see.
We should ask the HD State Prison to put a fence around it and annex it, we would be safer.

This incident is disturbing, however I praise our S.O. for catching this criminal and doing a great job! What I am most bothered by is the brash generalities of Mr. Tearful! Many people in LL are good upstanding individuals, tax payers- and even have JOBS (some important jobs, as a matter of fact!

Perhaps since you know about all these "vagrant" people and have time to cruise the street during the day, whilst many of us are working you could make some calls turn in these people in or offer help.

Just because you observe people home during the day, doesn't mean they don't have jobs, many decent people here work third shift, I am sorry not everyone is on your schedule. Do YOU want to do something to make a change or just sit here and complain?

I am on duty when I drive thru during the day and my duty is to observe, that us why I cry for us. The military is now very choosy but perhaps with another war and a draft the young in that area may have a chance/choice( offered by the judge) for a future.

A war?? Are you seriously proposing that war is the answer? Ya, sure send more more of our young people to wreck and ravage another country, put them in harms way, I'm sure several will die, that sounds morally sound! But seriously, I think you put that duty of yours into positive change.

If your available during the day and on duty observing...perhaps you could start up a neighborhood watch and/or help out those unemployed vagrants by posting jobs on the rarely used bulletin boards out in Leavitt. I'm sure that the water company might even write about it/you in the newsletter.
