Man rolls vehicle during chase, arrested on scene
Tuesday, Sept. 11 — In the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 8, law enforcement officers arrested Robert Brummett, 28, of Susanville, after he led them on a high-speed vehicle chase that ended when he rolled his vehicle on Byers Pass Road.
According to a press release from Kevin Jones, a sergeant with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were in the Leavitt Lake Area seeking a person who had been involved in an alleged domestic disturbance that occurred in the Susanville area.
Officers located Brummett, who was the person of interest in the case and attempted to detain him. According to the press release, Brummett disregarded the deputy and fled in his vehicle and in his attempt, collided with a residential fence.
The deputy pursued Brummett while activating his emergency lights and siren, but Brummett did not yield. From Leavitt Lake, Brummett drove west on Highway 395, reaching speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour.
According to the press release, in the process of evading deputies, the suspect forced opposing vehicles off the roadway as he continued in a reckless manner. Deputies continued to chase the vehicle as it turned onto Byers Pass Road. While still being pursued by deputies, Brummett’s vehicle collided with a parked vehicle on the street as it traveled south, but he still continued driving.
Prior to reaching Sunnyside Road, Brummett’s vehicle rolled and landed on its top. He did not need medical attention, was arrested at the scene and booked into the Lassen County Jail for felony evading of a peace officer and hit and run. Additional charges were added by the Susanville Police Department.
The case has been submitted to the Lassen County District Attorney for prosecution.
