Lassen wrestlers punish QHS
Lassen High School's wrestling team captured its ninth victory in 12 dual meets with a 57-24 rout of Quincy High School Wednesday, Dec. 19. The talented Grizzlies posted an easy victory without several key wrestlers.
"We had some kids out with injuries and who were sick, but Quincy still only won one match," Lassen head coach Rudy Valentine said. "The team is looking pretty tough, and as long as we can field a full team, we're going to be ready once league starts."
Seth Anderson was out because of an injury to his nose. He had to wear a mask in order to wrestle and take third at the Lassen Rotary Tournament.
Nick Lipton is sidelined with pulled rib muscles.
In the forfeit-laden meet against Quincy, Justen Roberts won at 103 pounds and pinning their opponents were Riley Urionaguena (171 pounds), Brett Cox (189), Phillip Bush (215) and Robert Clark at heavyweight.
The Grizzlies head to the Sierra Nevada Classic Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 27-29 - the season's toughest tournament.
The junior varsity wrestlers see action next at the Carson City Tournament on Monday, Jan. 7.
Lassen takes the mat at home when its Westside League campaign begins Wednesday, Jan. 9 against Oroville.
