Jon Alan Nakanishi, Lassen County Superior Court Family Law Facilitator and Judge for Lassen County Teen Court, died at the age of 42 Thursday, June 21. A loving husband and devoted father, Jon is survived by his wife, Rochelle, and three daughters, Kaitlyn, 10, Natalie, 8, and Jessica, 6, his parents, Alan and Sue Nakanishi and two sisters, Pam Tsuchiya and Jenny Cooper.

Jon was born in Lodi, Calif., and graduated with a business degree from Pacific Union College and a law degree from McGeorge School of Law. Most recently, Jon won the primary election for Superior Court Judge of Lassen County and was looking forward to the election in November. His family conveys their appreciation to all those who supported him in the primary.

Jon had a spirit larger than life. He had a quick smile and a hearty laugh that dispelled all shadows. Because he always put others first, he extended kindness and help to everyone. Although his life was tragically cut short, it was filled with joy and love, and his family was the center of his world. Those whom he left with broken hearts are comforted in the knowledge of Jon's devotion to God and are looking forward to the day when they will be in his arms again. His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.

Memorial services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30 at the Assembly of God Church, 473-465 Richmond Road North, in Susanville, and at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 14 in Lodi in the English Oaks Seventh-day Adventist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the U.S. Bank in Uptown Susanville where a donation account has been set up in Jon's name for his three daughters.

Delwynne Lavonne Nelson Rose was born on a snowy day, the sixth of January, near Arlington, S.D., to Frederick and Olive Nelson. She was born early, at seven months, and put in a shoebox by the woodstove to keep warm and survive. Not only did she survive, she thrived and lived a vital life to 90 years of age.

She was valedictorian and homecoming queen at Arlington High School. She went on to graduate at Northern State in Watertown, S.D., where she met her future husband, Harry Joel Rose. In her adventuresome spirit, she moved to San Francisco, Calif. during World War II and was part of the vital workforce assisting the war effort. Del and Harry married March 11, 1945, concerned that Harry was being “shipped out.”

After the war, finished earning teaching credentials at Northern State in Watertown, S.D., they moved west again, to North Bend, Ore. Harry coached football and taught high school and Del took care of their first child, Terrie, who was named after her dad. But California beckoned again, and the little family moved to Los Angeles, before finally settling in San Jose, Calif. Harry received his master's degree from Stanford and Del had another baby, Michael. However, Del wanted to make a difference in young children's lives and wanted to go back to school and begin a teaching career. So she went back to work when it was not popular for married women with children to do so. She taught fifth grade at Scott Lane Elementary School with a passion, until she retired in 1979 and moved to Lake Almanor in Plumas County, Calif.

Del and Harry moved to Susanville, Calif. in 1985, as it reminded them of South Dakota and their original roots. They traveled throughout the United States and took their children on historical trips throughout the country, sharing their love of history and family. Tragically, the love of her life, Harry, passed away in 1986, but Del courageously carried on. Her children, grandchildren, friends and community sustained her and benefited from her lessons of love, kindness, personal courage and integrity. She thrived as a volunteer at the original Lassen Community Hospital, member of Retired Teachers, The Red Hat Society, Methodist Church and Methodist fellowship, UMW and prayer groups. Her proudest moment was when she was chosen as Retired Teachers Northern California Teacher/Volunteer of the Year in 2006.

Delwynne Rose was the personification of a “heart warrior” - always caring about others, making a difference in society, encouraging her family to live with personal ethics, leading by example, living in love and kindness and leaving us with the grace and beauty that she lived for more than 90 years.

Our beloved “Nannie” left us Friday, June 22 and was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Olive Nelson; her brother, Lyle Nelson; and her beloved husband, Harry Joel Rose.

She is survived by her daughter, Terrie Rose-Boehme; son, Dr. Michael Nelson Rose; son-in-law, Glenn A. Boehme; daughter-in-law, Kimberly A. Rose; and her grandchildren, Jessica Boehme, Zachary Boehme, Chelsea Rose Davis, Eryn Rose, Savannah Rose, Nathaniel Rose, Justin Griffin and all their extended families, including baby Sophia Rose Griffin, her first great-granddaughter.

A service and celebration of Del's life was held at Eagle Lake Village at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30.

Judy Hiner died Monday, June 25, 2012. She was born in Palestine, Texas.

Judy is survived by her husband, Joe Hiner, of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Sterling Mayden, of Santa Fe Springs, Calif. and Donald Mayden, of Blackwell, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard John Struwe

Leonard John Struwe, 82, died June 24, 2012 at Renown Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 18, 1929 in Wisconsin.

Leonard is survived by wife, Margie; stepdaughter, Candy and Dave Grover, of Janesville; grandsons, Rick and Dennis Grover, of Hawaii; and six great-grandchildren.
