LHS boys win Quincy consolation title
Lassen was down by a point with two minutes to go against Rite of Passage. Chad Yancy then converted a three-point play and Ben Baker netted a key basket down the stretch to secure the win.
"It was nice to know that we are capable of winning a close game," Moore said. "In the past we would have lost the game, but I think we are learning to prevail in situations like this. The kids played well against a real athletic team.
Portola, a Division V team, struggled against Lassen, a Division III school, and the Grizzlies faced no resistance. Chris Peck poured in 18 points and Baker added 14.
Lassen was ahead 25-23 at halftime against West Valley, but the Grizzlies fell behind and West Valley hit 10 free throws down the stretch to win.
Baker, who was named to the all-tournament team, led Lassen with 13 points.
Lassen hosts Central Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 4. The freshman game starts at 4 p.m.
The Grizzlies (2-2) travel to Paradise this weekend for a tournament and open with Durham. Lassen will face Paradise or Willows in the second game.
"I hope we can go 1-1 (in the tournament). We're still way behind everybody else. We didn't get in any games during the summer and have a lot of catching up to do," Moore said.
"The football season being so long kind of pushed us back a bit. We're going play some tough teams in the preseason to get us ready for league."
Lassen opened the season with a 75-41 loss to Foothill. Yancy scored 11.
