Donald Reese Chamberlin

Donald Reese Chamberlin, of Herlong, Calif. died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at the Renown Regional Medical Center, Reno, Nev.

He was born March 17, 1932, to Charles E. and Velva P. Bowers, of Shippensburg, Pa. and was raised on their family farm. He graduated from the Shippensburg High School and was later employed by Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa. in the Special Weapons Department as a planner. He transferred in 1966 to the Sierra Army Depot, Herlong, retiring in 1994 with almost 44 years of service.

Donald was a strong-willed man who took much pride in his work history. He once enjoyed working the land in his spare time; he liked driving older Cadillacs, was kind to children and animals and he enjoyed conversing with friends.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Audrey E. Chamberlin, of Herlong, and formerly of Shippensburg. Also surviving are a brother Fred, a sister Mildred Davison and two stepdaughters, Doris “Jeannie” Madden and Donna “Sis” Gotsall, all of Shippensburg.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, C. Kenneth, Clifford E. and Robert L., all of Shippensburg.

A private viewing will be held at the discretion of the family. Final interment will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, where he will rest at his father’s feet.

A memorial service was held at the Bible Baptist Church in Herlong, officiated by Pastor Mike Reed Friday, Dec. 23, 2011. Light refreshments were served following the service; a second service will be held in Shippensburg with arrangements made by Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc. at the family’s convenience.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bible Baptist Church, Herlong, the National Porphyria Association, or to any local animal shelter of your choice.

Susan O’Daye Uribe Barba, born in Susanville Nov. 2, 1923, passed away Dec. 19, 2011. A longtime resident of Susanville, “Susie” was known to everyone as a real lady. She is remembered for her wise advice and kindness towards everyone she met.

Daughter of José Uribe and Rosie O’Daye, Susie was born and raised in Susanville. She attended local schools and the Sherman Indian School in Riverside, Calif. She served her country as a riveter for the U.S. Navy in San Diego during World War II.

She was well known in Susanville as a skilled seamstress, and as a babysitter for many, many children. She was a member of the Lassen County American Indian Organization and volunteered many years of service to the organization. She was also a member of the Susanville Indian Rancheria.

Susie is survived by her husband, Joseph; her son, Fred Gusman (Paige), of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; her daughters, Patricia Webber, of Susanville, Joyce Melendez (Arlan), of Reno, Nev., Madeline McIntire, of Susanville and Wilhelmina Buchanan (Louis), of Culver City, Calif.; her 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Dolores Choo, of Susanville; brother, Sam Uribe, of Ft. Hall, Idaho; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, friends and people who loved her.

Service was held at Walton’s Colonial Mortuary in Susanville.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at Diamond Crest Cemetery.
