Arlie Elmer Fisk, 77, passed away in a hospital at Boise, Idaho on Nov. 16, 2009. Graveside services were held at the Island City Cemetery on Nov. 19, 2009 where he was laid to rest alongside his wife of 52 years, Melva Lee Fisk.
Arlie was born Oct. 25, 1932 in De Witt, Texas and raised in Arkansas. During the Depression, his family moved out to California where he finished school and met Melva. He went on to college in Ohio until he was drafted into the Navy during the Korean War where he served as an electrical specialist. After his service to our country, he went on to become a California Highway patrolman in Hemet, Calif. He transferred to Janesville in 1964 and was CHP until his health caused him to retire. He went on to own Fisk Realty in Susanville until he retired and moved to Montana, and later La Grande, Ore.
He is survived by three children and their families: Bruce and Christy Eaton, of Hillsboro, Ore; Cindy Fisk-Bingham and Scott Bingham, of Mololla, Ore; and Crystal and Gary Purdy, of Susanville, Calif. Arlie is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Rafael, Joel, and Delaney Eaton, of Hillsboro, Ore.; Chalise Fisk, of Juneau, Ark., and Cody Fisk, of La Grande, Ore; Brian Purdy, Jessica Purdy-Valdovinos, and T.J. Valdovinos, of Susanville and a great-grandson Cayden Lee Purdy-Valdovinos.
Arlie is also survived by four sisters as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. My dad was the most honest, hardworking man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He had a wealth of information to share and had the most amazing memory recall. He shared his love of life and great love of family, and was ever there for a friend in need. You will always be in our hearts. Go with love.
Arthur M. Justis
Arthur M. Justis was born March 23, 1922 in Fullerton, Calif.
He was awarded a commendation with promotion for bravery during the attack on Pearl Harbor. After receiving a concussion he continued with his duties transporting personnel to reinforce guard forces.
He retired to the Doyle area in 1993 after a 30-year distinguished career as a California Registered Construction Inspector.
He served on the Lassen County Grand Jury, as Commander of the VFW Honey Lake Post 6356 and Mayor of Doyle.
He is preceded in death by wife Jerry and two brothers Philip and Clifford.
He is survived by one brother Stanley, of Arizona, daughters Donnette, Corla Jean, Jyme and Irene; sons David, of Washington, Frank, of Doyle and Michael, of Illinois.
Funeral services will be held Dec. 7, 2009. Visitation will be held at Walton’s Colonial from 9 to 11 a.m., and graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Doyle Cemetery.

Dolly Togni
Our loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother Dolly Togni passed away on Nov. 1, 2009 after a brief illness. Dolly was born on Jan. 21, 1925 in Cugnasco, Canton Ticino, Switzerland to Gualtiero Masciorini and Maria Braghetta Masciorini.
She immigrated to California in 1948 where she later met and married Arnold Togni, the love of her life for 59 years. They resided in King City and then Greenfield where she enjoyed her life raising a family and being a homemaker and farmer’s wife.
In 1980 Arnold and Dolly moved to Eagle Lake in Northern California where they relished 29 wonderful years by the lake. Dolly’s passion was cooking, and she derived great satisfaction from seeing the enjoyment people got from eating her delicious meals and desserts. Also, she as blessed with a natural artistic talent that was expressed through her numerous paintings of Swiss scenery, the Matterhorn being her favorite.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ben Masciorini, and son Mike Togni.
She is survived by her devoted husband Arnold Togni, of Eagle Lake, Calif.; sister Gianna Pura, of Greenfield; daughter Nancy Lester (Boyd), of Roseville, Calif.; sons Walter Togni, of Eagle Lake, and Martin Togni (Anne), of San Diego, Calif., granddaughter Danielle Lester, of Lincoln, Calif., grandsons Matthew and Brendan Togni, of San Diego, Calif., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Our dear Dolly will be forever remembered in our hearts and her love for use will carry us through until we all meet again.
A private memorial service was held with immediate family members.
Michael N. Tobey
Michael N. Tobey, 59, passed away, Nov. 13, 2009, at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev. He was born March 8, 1950 in St. Louis, Mo to Frank and Phyllis Tobey.
He was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis Tobey and his sister Kitt Tobey.
“Tobey” is survived by his wife, Diana Tobey, of Susanville, Calif.; his father, Frank, of Arizona; brothers, Steve Tobey, of California, Don Tobey, of Florida, Dave (Joan) Tobey, of Florida; sister, Sue Ellen Hull, of Arizona; son, Joshua Tobey, of Tarpon Springs, Florida; daughter, Selena Tobey, of Redding, Calif.; stepdaughters Heidi Stanton, of Washington and Debbie (Matt) Lovett, of Citrus Heights, Calif.; stepson Scott (Deanna) Nichols, of Susanville and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of his life will be at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7 at the T&A Lounge in Susanville.
Donald Leroy Freeman
Donald Leroy Freeman, 79, died on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009. He was born on April 8, 1930 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
He is survived by his sons James Williams, of Grass Valley, Calif., Chris Jensen, of Truckee, Calif., Clay Faulkner, of Susanville, Calif., and Danny Zurino, of Gridley, Calif.; daughters Victoria Doherty and Claudine Faulkner, of Susanville; and sister Laura Freeman, of Susanville. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Philip Drake Hamlin
Philip Drake Hamlin, 71, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at Banner Lassen Medical Center in Susanville. He was born on Nov. 8, 2009 in Glenridge, N.J.
He is survived by his wife Carol, of Susanville; brother Robert Hamlin; sister Virginia Adams; four step-children; one niece; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Carl LeRoy Roberts
Carl LeRoy Roberts died Tuesday morning, Nov. 10, 2009 at Copper Ridge Health Care Center located in Redding, Calif.
He was born in Gateway, Ark., to the late Alvin and Burma (Youngblood) Roberts on Sept. 9, 1927.
Carl is survived by his wife Jenny of Hayfork, Calif.; son Vernon Roberts, of Greenville, Calif.; daughters Carrie Scruggs, of Westwood, and Verna and Kathy Roberts, both of Hayfork; brother Elmer, of Burney, Calif.; sister Sarah, of Branson, Miss., six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
