    Greenville resident Raymond Karr Abrams passed away from this life peacefully at his home, Sunday evening, Oct. 25, 2009. Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., to the late William and Mayme (Alton) Abrams on Oct. 26, 1935, Ray was raised and educated in Chattanooga.
    Following high school, Ray entered the armed forces and served honorably as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his return home from the Navy, Ray settled in the coastal community of Scotia, California in 1954.
    Ray worked in the lumber industry as a heavy equipment operator for the Pacific Lumber Company until 1965 when he went to work in the construction industry also operating heavy equipment.
    Ray later moved to the Red Bluff area and proudly earned his AA degree in psychology in 1974 from Shasta College. Ray later worked for several years as a professional photographer specializing in portraits.
    Ray moved to Susanville in 2005 then to Greenville in 2007 to be closer to his family. As one who enjoyed the outdoors, Ray enjoyed fishing, especially the Eel River and the North Fork of the Trinity River and gardening, taking great pleasure in raising tomatoes to share with his friends and neighbors.
    Ray is survived by his sons; Scott and wife Judy Abrams, of Greenville, Calif., Steve and his wife Renee’ Abrams, of Scotia, Calif., and daughter Katy and husband Gary Olsen, of Susanville, Calif. Ray was also blessed by grandchildren Nick, Garnet, Cleone, Chris, Spenser, Lancer, Jennifer and Beverly and four great-grandchildren.
    A public service for Ray will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Greenville Southern Baptist Church while a private family service will be held at a later date.     Fred G. Alway, a long time resident of Susanville, died Sunday morning, Oct. 25, 2009 at the age of 95. He was born on Dec. 13, 1913 in Castella, Calif., the second son to Gordon and Josephine Alway.
    When he was a teenager the family moved to Susanville, established a home on  Johnstonville Road and he graduated from Lassen Union High School, Class of 1931. He then went to work for the former Fruit Growers Supply company and gained experience as a heavy equipment operator. It was this experience that qualified him for acceptance into the Seabees, U.S. Navy, during World War II. He was assigned to the 106th Naval Construction Battalion and spent the time between May 1943 and the end of the war in September 1945 building military bases and airfield on islands in the South Pacific Ocean.
    After the way he returned to Fruit Growers in the logging division of the company. When the company closed in the early 1960’s he was in charge of the logging truck operation. At this time he then began employment in the Bureau of Land Management and worked out of the Susanville office until his retirement in 1978.
    Fred married the former Henirette S. Hagata, of Willow Creek Valley on Oct. 31, 1940. She died in March 2006.
    He is survived by his daughter Karyn and her husband Bill Galetto, of Baldwin, Md., his son Jay and his wife, Robin Alway, of Redmond, Ore., his grandchildren include Timothy Galetto, of Phoenix, Md., Stacey Galetto, of Seattle, Wash., Greg Alway, of Everett, Wash., and Kim Alway, of Redmond; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Bernice Hagata, of Willow Creek Valley, Bea Alway, of Stockton, Calif., and Marie Simmons, of Encinitas, Calif., plus several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his brothers Harry and Jim Alway, and his sister Theo Beebe.
    Fred was a past member of the Elks Lodge.
    Burial will be at the Diamond Crest Cemetery. Arrangements for a memorial service are pending. Box 471, Susanville.

    Marcy Ann Coscarelli passed away on Aug. 12, 2009 in San Jose, Calif., from cancer. Marcywas born March 27, 1953 in Buffalo N.Y. Her family moved to San Jose in1856where she would grow up. She moved to Susanville in1984.
    Marcy is survived byher three children, five sisters and two brothers and her father.
    Sheworked for Bank ofAmerica for close to 33 years. Marcy had been retired for about two years. There will be a Celebration of Life for her that is open to the publicfrom 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Friday Nov. 6. At the Ilene Converse House, 469-800 Amesburry Drive, Susanville.     Brigid Brower passed away on Sept. 29, 2009 from longstanding health issues.
    She was Gloria and Robert McCormick’s first daughter and enjoyed her early years living in Southern California. She was born on Nov. 16, 1948. She graduated from San Luis Rey Academy in 1966 and was a novice with The Sisters of the Precious Blood for five years.
    She graduated with honors from the University of San Francisco and went on to get a Masters in Counseling from San Diego State University.
    Brigid married Robert Brower in 1977. They spent most of their married life settled in Susanville, Calif., raising and enjoying their children, Matthew and Emily.
    Brigid also taught classes to a variety of students in the area, in the high school, community college and the work release program in the Susanville prison. She influenced many people through her support and belief that everyone could succeed no matter what.
    Her spirit was of a true Fighting Irish nature. She defied grim medical predictions over and over, allowing her to have a full life with a liver transplant for more than 20 years. Her deep abiding faith inspired all who knew her.
    She is survived by her husband, Bob Brower; her father, Robert McCormick; her son Matthew Brower of San Diego and her daughter Emily Smith, of Arkansas. She is survived two grandchildren, Matthew and Erica’s son, Michael and Emily’s son, Malachi. She is also survived by her two sisters, Tricia Ceresa, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Molly McCormick, of Oakland, Calif.
    The family requests that no flowers be sent. Donations in Brigid’s memory can be made to your favorite charity. She supported Mercy Corps and Save The Children.
    A Celebration of Life will b eat 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15 at the Depot.
