Attempted homicide suspect arrested
Officers arriving at the scene found a child in space 50 of the park. According to police logs, the child told police a man went into his home and pointed a shotgun at his mother’s head. He said she hit the gun away and it went off. The child ran out while the man and his mom continued fighting.
Police investigation confirmed there was a domestic dispute in the house between Humphrey and his ex. During the altercation, Humphrey allegedly displayed a shotgun, and a struggle for the gun began. During the fight, Humphrey attempted to shoot his ex, a 34-year-old Susanville woman. She was not hit by the shotgun blast. The police are currently withholding her name for protection.
After the struggle, Humphrey took off on foot just before the police arrived.
Through coordinated efforts between the SPD and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Humphrey was apprehended in a field adjacent to the mobile home park. He was quickly booked into the Lassen County Adult Detention Facility on multiple charges, including attempted homicide, domestic violence and shooting a firearm at an inhabited dwelling.
Both Humphrey and his ex received non-life threatening injuries during their struggle. Both received treatment at Banner Lassen Medical Center and were released.
Police Captain Tom Downing said the case was still under investigation, and will be submitted to the Lassen County District Attorney for review.
