Clear Creek water system gets upgrades

Aug. 19, 2008 — “It’s been a busy month,” commented Rob Lee, president of the Clear Creek Community Services District Board of Directors. He made the comment after hearing Water Manager Ken Sasser give his report. Sasser listed several summer jobs that he had finished or that were near completion. These included painting the street water valves for easy identification, replacing a water shutoff valve at the Big Daddy’s Diner location and working with the electrician on the installation of a transfer switch for the new generator that will automatically kick on during a power outage to run the water pumps.

The new generator will help ensure there is water available to fight fires at all times and provide heat and power to the fire station and water department. It is part of the total system upgrade.

Working with Durham Pumps, the district has replaced both water pumps, which were more than 50 years old. The second pump was set in place Thursday, Aug. 7, and at that time an old gasoline generator was pulled from the pump house.

Fire Chief John Yderraga reported that a Clear Creek resident had installed a 2,500 gallon water tank on his property and said the fire department could put hardware on the tank to fit its water hoses. The tank had been approved by CALFIRE, said Yderraga.

Action items included the approval of the 2008-09 budget and the appointment of Christine Sasser to the board of directors. She will fill the seat left empty when Mitch McFarland resigned from the board to move from the area. Sasser will run for election in November along with incumbent board members Leo Mudrich and Jeff Allen.

General Manager Pat Mudrich said a discussion on the purchase of the water well at the top of Highway 147, overlooking Clear Creek, would be on the September agenda.

The next meeting of the board of directors is scheduled for Tuesday, 7 p.m. on Sept. 2. The board meets downstairs in the Clear Creek fire house.
