Filing deadlines for Lassen County elected office near

Aug. 5, 2008 — Time is running out for those who want to be a candidate for public office in the November election. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8. Lassen County Clerk Julie Bustamante said candidates need to fill out a form and sign an oath in order to run for office. She said there is quite a bit of paperwork to fill out. Candidates need to submit their completed paperwork by the Aug. 8 deadline.

Bustamante said if a candidate is running for office unopposed, the candidate’s name will not appear on the November ballot. Following the election, the Lassen County Board of Supervisors will appoint the unopposed candidate to office.

If an incumbent does not file for re-election, the filing deadline for that seat is extended until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Bustamante said there is no fee to run for office. There is a fee if a candidate wants to include a candidate’s statement in the sample ballot. The amount of that fee varies with the office.
