Chester teen slain, second teen in custody
A suspect, Reyes Carrillo, has been taken into custody.
Carrigan and Feurtado attended the Chester High School prom together Saturday evening. Their bodies were discovered at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
The tragedy multiplied for the Carrigan family when 20-year-old Billy Carrigan, Jenny’s brother, suffered major injuries in a single-vehicle accident on his way from the Bay area to Chester.
Responding to an emergency call to return home to Chester, Billy Carrigan was approximately 35 miles from his destination when he crashed.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Aaron Goulding said, “Shortly before 7 p.m., for an unknown reason, his vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees.”
He said the accident took place west of Mineral, in the vicinity of the Lassen Lodge, on Highway 36.
He said “major injuries were suspected” and that Carrigan had been care flighted to Enloe Hospital.
As of Monday morning, May 12, the Enloe Hospital emergency room was not releasing information on Carrigan’s condition.
Shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday, Detective Sgt. Greg Hagwood offered the first official word about the homicides.
“We have a male and female deceased in the residence,” he said. “At this point we cannot reasonably identify the victims and this is to be considered an ongoing Plumas County Sheriff’s Office and California Department of Justice investigation.”
He also said that not all members of the family had been notified.
According to Hagwood, the two individuals inside the residence were “apparent victims of homicide.”
