Westwood senior joind 144 others for governor's academic recognition honor
Worthington attended a special dinner at the Sacramento Convention Center Tuesday, March 11, to receive the trophy. Accompanying her were Caroline and Mark Worthington, her parents, and Peggy Fulder, a counselor at Westwood High.
Qualifying for awards is hard work, said Worthington. However, it is an important part of the process of getting into the college of your choice.
“You can list your awards on your transcripts and resume and the more you have, the more they know you are a serious student. I was accepted to every college I applied to and that includes UC Berkeley and UC Davis,” said Worthington.
In preparation for college, Worthington said she has applied for every scholarship and award for which she is eligible. Janet Garcia, the secretary/registrar at Westwood High, makes sure all students are aware of the opportunities. She suggested Worthington apply for the Governor’s Academic Recognition Award.
Currently Worthington’s 4.0 grade point average has earned her the role of valedictorian for the class of 2008. She has kept her grades high while participating in extracurricular activities and working to save money for college. In addition, she is enrolled in an advanced placement English class this semester.
In the fall, Worthington plans to attend the University of California, Davis.
