Nevada company wins city's road rehab contract
The City Council at is Wednesday, Sept. 19 meeting awarded the contract to Sierra Nevada Construction and authorized city staff to execute change orders to spend the left over $197,986. The state awarded the city $910,000 to repair the roads.
Councilmember Kurt Bonham asked Public Works Director Craig Platt if Sierra Nevada Construction could get the job done without a lot of change orders. Platt said the company has done work for Sparks, Nev and the city of Reno.
The streets that will be rehabilitated are River Street, from South Ash Street to Riverside Drive; Chestnut Street, from Paul Bunyan Road to Ash Street; North Railroad Avenue, from Richmond Road to Pardee Avenue; Washo Lane, from the north to the south end; Maidu Lane, from the north to the south end; Burma Road, from North Pine Street to North Roop Street and Court Street from South Lassen Street to South Gay Street.
The roads will be resurfaced with a layer of asphalt at least 2 inches thick on an 8-inch aggregate base. They will also get new curb ramps, gutters and storm drains.
