School locks down for 1/2 hour
The lock down lasted no more than a half hour, said Police Chief Jeff Atkinson.
The PD had received reports that a mental health patient was on Hospital Way, which is behind the middle school, making threats and was possibly armed.
The call to the school was a precaution until the police could ascertain if the patient indeed had a weapon.
The police located the suspect and determined he was not armed.
“I am glad to see the school didn’t hesitate and the kids took it seriously,” said Atkinson.
This is the second time in 2007 the school was placed on lock-down. The first time occurred last spring when a man threatened to copy cat the Virginia Tech shooting that killed 32 people and wounded 25 others.
