Deputies arrest registered sex offender
UPDATE: Friday, April 11 — A registered sex offender seen around the Janesville area including an elementary school was arrested at a local motel after a deputy saw the vehicle he had been reportedly seen driving.
According to updated information from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Santos Telebango Bagano, Jr., 65, of Stagecoach, Nev., was arrested for being out of compliance with his sex registration as defined in Section 290 of the California Penal Code. He was booked into the Lassen County Jail.
The sheriff’s office issued a press release early Friday, April 11 asking for anyone who saw Bagano to contact them.
According to sergeant Kevin Jones, shortly after the information was released to the public and media, the communications center was flooded with calls from community members who saw or had contact with Bagano in recent days.
Jones expressed appreciation to everyone who called and wanted to help finding the person.
Bagano is currently listed as a Tier 2 offender in the Nevada Department of Public Safety Registry, which requires lifetime registration. Investigators allege Bagano did not notify the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department within 24 hours of leaving Nevada, as required.

Friday, April 11 — The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office seeks information regarding a convicted sex offender seen in Lassen County who allegedly has not notified authorities of his whereabouts as required by law.
According to press release from the sheriff’s office, Santos Telebango Bagano, Jr., 65, of Stagecoach, Nev.,is a registered sex offender as defined in Section 290 of the California Penal Code.He is currently listed as a Tier 2 offender in the Nevada Department of Public Safety Registry, which requires lifetime registration. Investigators allege Bagano did not notify the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department within 24 hours of leaving Nevada, as required.
According to authorities, Bagano is out of compliance with his mandatory registration in both Lassen County and Nevada and is subject to arrest if located.
Bagano was last seen driving a 2005 Ford Mustang. He is described as a 65-year-old white male with brown hair, brown eyes, 5’ 7” tall, weighing 180 pounds and wearing chrome-framed glasses. He is missing finger joints on his right hand and has a scar under his chin.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, an unknown man was found on another person’s property near Honey Girl Lane in Janesville about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10. The man claimed to be from the Sacramento area looking for real estate.During the conversation, the man’s story seemed very suspicious, and he commented about having family members who were in law enforcement.The unidentified man was asked to leave the property, which he did.
Further investigation into the man’s identity revealed he was seen driving the Ford Mustang on two different occasions — on April 8 near Janesville Elementary School and parked at the intersection of Sunnyside Road County Road A-3.
Residents who see Bagano or his 2005 Ford Mustang are asked to call the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 257-6121.
