Savannah Elizabeth “Beth” Engelbrecht
In loving memory
Beth Engelbrecht passed away at the age of 84 on March 5, 2014. Our mother Beth was born and raised in Oakland, Calif., where she attended grammar school, high school, vocational and college studies and then married Joseph Kenneth Engelbrecht at the age of 21.
Beth was very proud of their children, Dena McKitrick, of Sacramento, Calif., Laura Whitelaw, of Tahoe Vista, Calif., Kenneth Fred Engelbrecht (deceased) and Margaret Eileen Hill, of Harrison Township, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Rebecca, Jake, Bradley, Sarah, Janna, Tessa, Andy, David, Shawn, Julie, Brad and Trevor; and nine great-grandchildren.
Beth lived and worked primarily in the Susanville area, employed in the health care industry in radiology and administration. She moved to Sacramento for a few years after her husband Joe passed away, then to Reno in 2003, and eventually in 2012 to North Lake Tahoe to live with her daughter, Laura, and son-in-law, Duane Whitelaw. She will be missed in each of those communities.
She loved working puzzles, family get-togethers, shopping and going to lunch with friends and family. Beth loved trips to the Bay Area to visit her sister, Jeanne Jones, and other family members. She was also a collector of more than 600 cookbooks.
Beth moved to the Tahoe Forest Hospital Extended Care Center in February 2013 where she shared her love of artwork, singing and telling a good joke with residents and staff.
Beth received excellent health care at the Tahoe Forest Hospital system ECC, ED, ICU and hospice programs which our family can’t say enough good things about. No services are currently planned. However, financial contributions to any veterans organization are appreciated.
